Whether we realize it or not, we are judged by people within the first 5 seconds of meeting them. Likewise, you will also be noticing what your date is wearing. Here are a few tips to take the stress out of putting your look together.

What Silhouette to Wear For Your Night Out

I always tell my clients to wear a casual cocktail dress on the first date. When shopping, it is important to know your most flattering and not so flattering body features. Don’t spend hours trying on different dresses because you think they look cute on the hanger! Instead, only look for dresses that show off your best features. If you are thin and have a long torso, look for a dress that breaks up your mid-section. Show off your hourglass figure by wearing an asymmetrical dress with shirring details. If you have a larger bust, wear a halter top dress for support. Find a dress with thicker straps, as it will take some of the focus off the larger bust and make the overall body shape more balanced. For a smaller bust and smaller torso, wear a dress that has definition or detail, so that the design will even out the smaller body features.

What Length Your Dress Should Be On A First Date

Unsure what the right length of your dress should be? Some dresses are made shorter, or are they? Actually, all fashion is made to fit a certain girl, that girl is called the “Fit Model”. Every company has a fit model as a standard for all their sizing. From that girl’s measurement, the garments will be graded (sized) up or down to fit the different size ranges. No outfit is custom made to fit your body, which is why one garment will look so different on each body type, no matter what size you are. So with that being said, how are you supposed to shop and know what length dress is going to fit your proportions? The shorter the dress, the longer your legs will look. The longer the dress, the shorter you are going to look. If you are short, try to stay away from wearing dresses that hit just below the knee, as this will make you look even shorter and make your hips wider. The opposite is true for taller people; try not to wear short dresses if you are tall, as they will make you look like “all legs”. The most flattering look is when your body is balanced. You will know if you are in balance when the edge of the dress hits at your middle finger. Stand straight up and make sure your arms are straight down. Wherever your middle finger hits on your thigh is the right length for you!

It is time to bring color into your life! Maybe you wear black because you think it looks more professional or makes you look thinner. Possibly you have adopted black because you feel like you don’t want to draw a lot of attention to yourself. Why not try a new approach that is less predictable and anything but boring? There are a lot of things that go into the decision simply because you want to show off who you are with that first look. So… put some thought into that. Wearing your favourite color will put a bit of spring in your step and can even act like a bit of a security for your sense of well being. Color also brings out your eyes and makes you look fresher. Who doesn’t want that? Remember, you want to make a lasting impression on your date!

If you are going on a blind date, keep in mind you do not know how tall he is. Wearing a mid-length heel is best. You will look well dressed and comfortable.

What Accessories

If you decide to wear a colored dress, your dress does not need to be embellished. You want to make a statement but not overdo it. If color is too much of a stretch for you, wear black with colored or embellished accessories. Now that you look amazing, you can focus on enjoying the date!
