TREND PRIVÉ talks – Iryna Mykytiuk, founder of ELSA FAIRY

Can you share the journey that led you to create ELSA FAIRY? What were some pivotal moments in your life that ignited your passion for children’s fashion and couture design?

My journey with ELSA FAIRY began as a whisper of a dream — a vision woven from imagination, love, and resilience. From my earliest memories in Ukraine, I was captivated by the artistry that surrounded me — the embroidery, the craftsmanship, the quiet poetry of creation. Fashion, to me, was never just about garments; it was about storytelling through texture and silhouette. The moment I first designed a gown for a child, something awakened. I witnessed how a dress could do more than adorn — it could empower. It could reflect the purity, courage, and wonder that children naturally carry within. That moment became the heartbeat of ELSA FAIRY: a couture house born to celebrate the magic of childhood through artistry and emotion. When the world around me grew uncertain — during times of war and loss — creating beauty became my act of hope. ELSA FAIRY was built not in comfort, but in courage. Each gown is now a symbol of resilience and love — crafted to remind the world that even in darkness, light can still shine through silk, tulle, and imagination. For me, fashion is not an industry; it is a language of the soul. And ELSA FAIRY is my way of speaking it — softly, but with strength.

Your creations are renowned for their intricate and artistic designs. Could you walk us through your creative process when conceptualizing a new gown? What steps do you take from initial inspiration to the final handcrafted piece?

Every ELSA FAIRY gown begins with a feeling — a spark that often comes from something intangible: a piece of music, a painting, a fleeting expression, or the quiet magic in a child’s eyes. Inspiration, for me, is deeply emotional. It’s the moment when imagination and empathy meet — when I sense a story waiting to be told through fabric. From that first vision, I begin to sketch — not just lines and shapes, but emotions. Each stroke defines movement, light, and the personality of the gown. Then begins the search for materials — silks that breathe, tulle that floats, crystals that catch the light like morning dew. Every texture and color must reflect the emotion of the design. Once the concept is clear, my atelier and I bring it to life through a meticulous process of pattern-making, hand embroidery, and couture finishing. Every stitch is a conversation between art and craftsmanship — a dialogue that can take hundreds of hours. When the final piece emerges, it’s more than a gown; it’s a living artwork — a symphony of passion, patience, and precision. To me, each dress carries a heartbeat. It tells a story not just of who I am as a designer, but of the child who will wear it — her dreams, her light, her moment to shine.

Storytelling through fashion is a unique aspect of your brand. How do you infuse narratives into your collections, and can you give an example of a design that was inspired by a particular story or theme?

Storytelling has always been at the heart of ELSA FAIRY. For me, a gown is never just a design — it’s a narrative woven from emotion, memory, and imagination. Each collection begins with a story I feel deeply, one that speaks about femininity, transformation, and the poetry of being. With “The Muse”, I wanted to honor the idea of inspiration itself — the silent dialogue between the artist and the divine spark that moves them. Every gown in this collection embodies a different kind of muse: sometimes ethereal and romantic, sometimes bold and sculptural, but always born from emotion. One of the key designs was inspired by the timeless image of a painter’s muse — a being both real and dreamlike, whose presence transforms art into something eternal. I translated that feeling into a gown crafted from layers of translucent silk, hand-embroidered with delicate metallic threads that shimmer like brushstrokes of light. The silhouette moves as if painted by air — a tribute to creativity, grace, and the unseen forces that guide the artist’s hand.

Through The Muse, I wanted to remind the world that inspiration is not distant — it lives within us. Every woman, every child, can be a muse — when she dares to express her light and beauty without fear. That is the essence of ELSA FAIRY: turning dreams into couture, and emotions into art.

Given your Ukrainian heritage, in what ways do you draw from your cultural background when designing your garments? Are there specific traditions or symbols that you incorporate into your work?

My Ukrainian heritage is the heartbeat of my creativity. It lives quietly within every thread, every silhouette, every story I tell through design. Ukraine is a land of contrasts — of strength and softness, sorrow and light — and those dualities inspire me deeply.

From childhood, I was surrounded by the beauty of Ukrainian artistry — intricate embroidery, vibrant color palettes, and a reverence for craftsmanship passed down through generations. Our culture has always celebrated creation by hand, where every stitch carries meaning and love. I carry that legacy into every ELSA FAIRY gown, transforming traditional values into contemporary couture. Symbolically, I am often drawn to elements that reflect hope and endurance — motifs reminiscent of nature, wings, and flowers in bloom. These details speak of rebirth, a theme that has become even more personal in recent years. Living and creating through the challenges of war has taught me that beauty can be a form of resistance — an act of faith. So, while ELSA FAIRY may shine on the world’s stages — from Paris to Dubai — its soul remains Ukrainian. Each gown is a silent tribute to my homeland: to its artistry, its courage, and its unbreakable spirit. Through my work, I strive to show that even from pain, one can create something eternal — something luminous.

The challenges you’ve faced, especially amid adversity and conflict in Ukraine, are undoubtedly significant. How have these experiences shaped not only your brand’s mission but also your personal outlook on resilience and creativity in the fashion industry?

The journey of ELSA FAIRY has been shaped as much by beauty as by hardship. When war touched my homeland, it was as if the world stopped for a moment — and yet, within that silence, I found a deeper understanding of what creation truly means. Fashion, for me, became more than art; it became survival — a way to keep hope alive. There were times when it felt impossible to dream, but I realized that even in darkness, creativity can be a light. Designing gowns while hearing the echoes of conflict was not only an act of work, but an act of faith — faith that beauty and humanity will always endure. These experiences changed the soul of my brand. ELSA FAIRY is no longer just about couture; it is about courage. Every collection now carries the spirit of resilience — reminding the world that even from pain, something extraordinary can be born. The meticulous handwork, the soft fabrics, the ethereal silhouettes — they are symbols of hope, each gown a quiet declaration that love is stronger than fear. Personally, this journey taught me that resilience is not about being unshaken, but about rising again with grace. The war did not destroy my art; it refined it. It gave it truth. Today, I create with even greater purpose — to honor life, to honor my country, and to show that fashion, at its highest form, can heal and inspire.

Reflection is often a part of the artistic process. Can you tell us about a specific gown or collection that stands out to you as particularly meaningful? What made it special, and what was the story behind its creation?

“The Muse” is, to me, a conversation between emotion and form — a collection that celebrates the power of inspiration itself. Each gown was designed as a living sculpture, a portrait of the moment when imagination becomes reality. Visually, the collection explores contrast — strength and softness, volume and lightness, stillness and motion. The sculptural pink gown, blooming with hand-formed rosettes, symbolizes the birth of creativity — an idea unfolding petal by petal. The luminous white piece, worn by a young muse, represents purity and new beginnings — a reflection of how innocence can coexist with artistic depth. And then, the flowing turquoise gown with its wings of fabric and feathered accents embodies liberation — the soul of the artist taking flight.

When these designs came alive on the runway at Paris Fashion Week, they felt like emotions in motion — each muse carrying a different fragment of the same story: the eternal dance between vulnerability and power. “The Muse” became more than a collection; it was a declaration. A reminder that inspiration is not something we chase — it lives within us, in our resilience, our dreams, and our willingness to transform pain into beauty. Every gown, every movement, was created to honour that divine spark that exists in all of us — the muse within.

In the competitive background of children’s couture, what unique perspectives or skills do you believe set ELSA FAIRY apart from other brands? How do you aim to maintain that distinction as the industry evolves?

In children’s couture, I have always believed that the true distinction lies not only in craftsmanship, but in emotion. ELSA FAIRY was never meant to simply dress a child — it was created to celebrate her essence, her dreams, and the beauty of her individuality. What sets us apart is the way we merge haute couture artistry with storytelling. Each gown is a handmade narrative — sculpted, embroidered, and finished with the precision of couture, but infused with the soul of a fairytale. I approach every design as a portrait of a moment — of innocence, transformation, and light. This balance between structure and softness, between imagination and excellence, defines our identity. Another element that makes ELSA FAIRY unique is our philosophy of emotional design. We do not create for the runway alone — we create for the memory. Each gown becomes a symbol of celebration, of confidence, of belonging. It’s about helping a young girl see herself as extraordinary, powerful, and radiant in her own story. As the industry evolves, our mission remains rooted in authenticity. We will continue to preserve the artistry of handcraft while embracing innovation — sustainable materials, modern silhouettes, and new forms of creative collaboration. But our heart will always stay the same: to craft gowns that carry not just beauty, but meaning. In a world that often rushes, ELSA FAIRY stands still — to remind us that true luxury is time, intention, and love woven into every stitch.

Runways serve as a vital platform for showcasing artistic vision. How do you curate your presentations to effectively communicate the essence of a collection like The Swan? What elements do you focus on to captivate your audience?

For me, the runway is not just a platform — it is a stage for emotion, a place where art comes alive through movement and light. When I curated the presentation for “The Muse” by ELSA FAIRY, my intention was to create an atmosphere where every guest could feel the heartbeat of the collection — to witness inspiration transformed into couture. The Muse was born from the idea that every woman, every child, carries within her the spirit of a muse — the power to inspire, to dream, to transform. I wanted the show to embody that essence. Each gown was designed as a living sculpture, expressing a different facet of creativity: the awakening of imagination, the courage to create, the grace of becoming. From the first note of music to the final step on the runway, everything was orchestrated like a visual symphony. The lighting flowed like brushstrokes, revealing the movement of sculptural gowns — layered petals of silk, flowing feathers, and ethereal textures that caught the light like emotion itself. The rhythm of the show mirrored the creative process — soft, introspective moments that blossomed into grandeur and liberation. My focus was to ensure that the audience did not just watch the presentation — but felt transported into a world where art, femininity, and imagination exist in harmony. “The Muse” was my tribute to the mysterious energy that lives between artist and inspiration — a collection that speaks in the language of dreams, reminding us that beauty is not something we create, but something we become.

For aspiring designers who look up to you, what wisdom or advice would you impart based on your experiences in navigating the complexities of the fashion world? What skills do you think are essential for success?

To every aspiring designer, I would say this — fashion is not only about creating beauty; it is about creating meaning. The world does not need more garments; it needs more truth, more emotion, more soul. Find your voice, and let it speak through your work. When I began my journey, there were moments filled with uncertainty, and times when the path seemed impossible — but those challenges became my teachers. They showed me that success in fashion requires not only talent, but resilience, discipline, and authenticity. In this industry, trends will come and go, but your integrity as an artist — your vision — must remain unwavering. Be patient with your growth. Master the craft, understand the fabric, respect the hands that sew beside you. Never lose sight of why you create. Each collection, each design, should carry a piece of your heart — that is what gives it life. To me, the most essential skill is not sketching or sewing — it is feeling. You must be able to feel the world around you — its beauty, its pain, its stories — and translate that emotion into form. That empathy is what turns a designer into a storyteller, and a dress into art.

And finally — never be afraid of vulnerability. It is not weakness; it is where the most powerful creativity is born. Just as The Muse was inspired by the invisible spark that connects emotion and creation, you too must trust your inner light. Protect it, nurture it, and let it shine through everything you make.

As you look towards the future, what ambitions do you hold for ELSA FAIRY in the next five years? Are there new markets, collaborations, or innovative projects that you’re hoping to pursue?

As I look toward the future, my vision for ELSA FAIRY is to continue evolving — not only as a couture house, but as a symbol of artistry, emotion, and hope. The next five years will be about expansion, innovation, and deeper connection with our global audience, while remaining faithful to the soul of our brand. I see ELSA FAIRY growing beyond its origins in children’s couture into a universe of storytelling — where fashion, art, and purpose coexist. With each new collection, we will explore themes that reflect the human spirit — resilience, transformation, and light. Following The Muse, I want to create experiences that are not just seen but felt — presentations that merge couture with performance, sound, and emotion. We are also preparing to expand into new markets, building bridges with creative communities across Paris, Dubai, New York, and Tokyo — places where art and innovation thrive. Collaborations with visionary artists, musicians, and designers are on the horizon, as I believe the future of couture lies in collaboration, not competition.

Technologically, I dream of blending handcrafted couture with modern innovation — exploring sustainable techniques, new-generation fabrics, and digital artistry, while preserving the sacred craftsmanship that defines ELSA FAIRY. But above all, my ambition is to keep inspiring — to remind people that fashion is not only about beauty, but about emotion, identity, and healing. ELSA FAIRY will continue to tell stories of courage and grace, honouring its Ukrainian roots while speaking a universal language — the language of dreams.
