REIMAGINING STREETWEAR: AN INTERVIEW WITH ANDREA MOORE

One designer stands resiliently apart, redefining what it means to create and wear clothing with meaning and her name is Andrea Moore, the visionary founder of the contemporary fashion label MOORE, is at the forefront of this transformation. Her background into the fashion industry is not merely a tale of artistry and design; it is a story about passion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to sustainability, quality, and timeless elegance.

Andrea’s story began in a small town, where her fascination with textiles and craftsmanship blossomed at an early age. Growing up surrounded by creative influences, she was inspired by the vibrant colors and intricate patterns of her grandmother’s quilting. This early exposure to the world of fabric ignited a spark in Andrea, leading her to pursue formal education in fashion design. She honed her skills at prestigious institutions, where her talent was recognized through various accolades and fellowships. Andrea’s academic journey provided her with a solid foundation in design principles, but it was her inherent creativity and innovative spirit that set her apart in a competitive industry.

In 2020, amidst the challenges posed by a global pandemic, Andrea decided to launch MOORE, a brand that would not only celebrate individuality but also prioritize ethical fashion practices. MOORE was born from her vision of creating pieces that resonate with the modern consumer—bold yet versatile, and designed to empower the wearer. With a strong emphasis on sustainability, every collection reflects Andrea’s commitment to minimizing environmental impact, utilizing eco-friendly materials, and supporting local artisans. This dedication resonates deeply with consumers who are increasingly seeking meaningful connections with the brands they support.

What makes MOORE particularly unique is its celebration of diversity. Andrea believes that fashion should transcend boundaries; her designs cater to a wide array of body types, cultures, and personal styles. By promoting inclusivity within her collections, she encourages individuals to embrace their identities confidently and express themselves through thoughtfully crafted garments. The brand’s ethos is encapsulated in its tagline, “Wear your story,” encouraging wearers to find pieces that not only complement their aesthetic but also reflect their journeys.

Andrea’s work has garnered significant attention within the fashion community, with her collections being featured in prominent fashion shows and publications. Her designs, characterized by bold patterns, rich textures, and a harmonious color palette, evoke a sense of sophistication while remaining approachable. Each item tells a story—be it through its intricate detail or the narrative woven into its creation. In Andrea’s hands, clothing transcends mere fabric; it becomes a vessel for expression and empowerment, telling the story of the wearers themselves. Yet, Andrea Moore is not only dedicated to her craft; she is also a passionate advocate for mentorship and education in fashion. She actively engages with young designers and students, believing in the importance of fostering a supportive community within the industry. Through workshops, speaking engagements, and collaborative projects, Andrea shares her knowledge and experiences, empowering the next generation of designers to pursue their dreams with confidence and creativity.

Andrea, your journey to becoming a fashion designer is quite unique. Can you tell us about the pivotal moments in your life that inspired you to create MOORE and how your vision for the brand has evolved over time, particularly as a mother and wife?

I was sewing by age seven, patching together bed sheets and blankets in New Hampshire—always tweaking and experimenting. That thread of creativity stayed with me through design school at UNC‑Greensboro and work with several major brands. But the true turning point came in 2014, when I launched MOORE Custom Goods in Portland, merging retail with in‑house production. Fast forward to 2024, when as a stay‑at‑home mom of twins and wife, I woke from a dream of ‘The Makers NY’ in Larchmont—a space where fashion meets creativity and community’. Over time, motherhood and family life deepened my vision: MOORE is no longer just sartorial, but a legacy of thoughtful living.

Sustainability is a key element of MOORE. Can you elaborate on your decision to prioritize vegan and dead-stock fabrics? What challenges have you faced in sourcing sustainable materials and how has this commitment influenced your design choices?

Gender neutrality is a significant aspect of your designs. What motivated you to explore this approach, and how do you believe it reflects broader societal changes in the perception of fashion?

Fashion is expression, not assigned by chromosomes. From early on, I felt drawn to neutral silhouettes—shapes that belong to everyone. Over the years, as more voices challenge binaries, this approach has become not just personal but cultural, reflecting and affirming broader shifts in identity.

The color palette and fabric choices in your collections have become signature elements of MOORE. Can you describe your creative process when exploring new textures and colors, and how external influences or your personal experiences shape this process?

Balancing creativity with motherhood can be challenging. How do you integrate family life into your work, and are there moments when your children inspire your designs?

Balancing MOORE with parenting means weaving life into design. My twins and youngest bring spontaneity—I see shapes, color combinations, playful proportions inspired by their world. Design sessions might happen at lunch‑table sketches before bedtime feeds—motherhood is both challenge and muse.

With your past involvement in fashion weeks, how do you prepare for a significant event like Paris Fashion Week, and what are your expectations for your show in October 2025?

“NYFW in Sept 2024 and Feb 2025 helped us refine runway pace and storytelling rhythm” .

For Paris in October 2025, the prep begins with a collection that marries sustainability, narrative, and gender fluidity. We’ll rehearse fabric movement, plan set design with our open‑concept ethos, and deeply consider audience takeaways: craftsmanship, inclusion, environmental responsibility.
