INTERVIEW WITH BRENDA DOS SANTOS, FOUNDER OF B GOLDEN JEWELRY
Can you tell us a little about your childhood cultural background and when did you decide to become a jewelry designer?
My family is from Angola, Portugal, Cape-Verde and Mozambique I grew up with my parents and had my grandparents always around specially my maternal grandmother who was more of a mother. It’s a mix of countries and cultures, but we always remained neutral, always had an education to respect the elders and listen to their stories.
I decided to become a jewelry designer in 2018 when I got pregnant, which was my moment to be serious about it.
We know your jewelry pieces are handcrafted and this is very important for a slow-fashion industry. Can you tell me how you decided on this approach and how many people are in your team?
Yes, some of the pieces, the most delicate ones are handcrafted, because I feel like the world has been going through so much that we need to help minimize the pressure people have on not having a job. Being handcrafted it gives a more personal touch and its more special.
What about education in the jewelry industry? Do you think is important before launching your own jewelry brand and why?
I would say it really depends on how much you know, but we can get some expertise. Some people are just born for certain things, I did one class in fashion but never thought I would pursue it, I can say that I learned but I have been so much out in the real world that it makes a much bigger impact.
Will there be any possibility in the future to see jewelry workshops in person or online with B GOLDEN world ?
Of course, we will be creating that soon and hoping it will for the linking of people.
How would you describe your style of jewelry and the women who buy them?
I have a very particular style; I like to keep it simple but at the same time it must be different, appealing and alluring. I like to have a unique style and love to mix match to make new sets. The women who buy the jewelry many of them have their own style and I love each one of them and how they do it, it’s amazing to see new ways of using the jewelry with our clients.
What’s your favorite place where you feel more inspired?
I would say my favorite place is at home, I feel more relaxed and ready to think about new styles also when traveling is unbelievable how ideas can just start popping out of my head.
How challenging is the business part for a jewelry brand like yours?
It’s very challenging, we must keep up with the fashion and always try to follow what’s trendy to satisfy clients with specific taste.
What’s next for your brand?
Still, living little by little, trying to give more life to the brand, expand much more and create our own character.
